Notes

On the escutcheon lies the arms of the House of Cambridge, a cadet branch of the House of Hanover, descended form Adolphus I (the Duke of Cambridge), the youngest son of George III. He was elected to become king of Ostfolk, represented on the shield proper, after its War of Independence against the Danish in 1815, which the British supported. To represent the new dynasty, the arms of the House of Hanover were modified by adding the arms of Cambridge, to represent the title of Duke of Cambridge.
