Notes

The red hand alludes to arms of many members of Irish O'Neill families and the legend of the Red Hand of Ulster. The eight-pointed star, as well as the color blue, are symbols of the Virgin Mary. The wavy stripes symbolize the Seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church, the three white stripes further representing the Holy Trinity as well as the Saint Lawrence, Mississippi, and Illinois rivers. -Ae1
