Notes

The first and fourth quarters are obviously based on the Stars and Stripes. The second and third quarters are based on the coat of arms of the Colony of Virginia, with inescutcheons for (1) England and Scotland, (2) France (by way of England), (3) Ireland, and (4) I substituted in the arms of Sir Walter Raleigh for his establishement of the Roanoake Colony. This coat of arms belongs in an alternate history where the founding fathers, instead of establishing an independent nation, were created Peers of the Realm according to a heavily altered Treaty of Paris.
