Notes

Only the most noble and powerful families of the Empire could receive the honor of having a Peer in their family. Directly elected by the Emperor himself among his most strict collaborators, the title of Peer under the pressure of nobility rapidly evolved into an almost hereditary charge passed by father to son in the most influential landlord's families. In LaFrance, the six nominated peers had a gold baton with lilies, wore a blue cloak and were called "Paladins", while in the Reitermark the title was awarded to three laymen, also called the Marksmen, and three bishops; they wore a red cloak and had a gold baton with red crosses.
