§12. Cross avellane: so called from its resemblance to four filberts(nuces avellanÅ); there seems to be no French representative(but see otelles); very few English instances have been observed.
Vert, a cross avellane argent--SYDENHAM, Somerset, granted 1757.
Argent, two bars gules, on a canton of the second a cross avellane or--KIRKBY, Cumberland.
