DEWSBURY (Yorkshire). Chequy or and azure, on a chief engrailed sable, a cross patonce of the first, between two owls argent. Crest — In front of a cross patonce fitchee azure, an owl argent. Motto — " Deus noster refugium et virtus." Granted, College of Arms, 24th February 1893.
The chequy field is derived from the arms of the ancient Earls of Warren, and the owls from the achievement of the Savile family.
