These arms were designed by French heraldist Robert Louis in 1950 but as of yet, have not been officially adopted. The gyronny division is a canting element referring to the region's name and the chief is taken from the arms of the former province of Guyenne, which in turn took it's arms from the ancient region of Aquitaine. These were the arms born by the famous Elanor of Aquitaine.
