Notes

The white and blue stripes recall the arms of Ahun, the township in France where Mr. Margot's family has lived since the 16th century. The brick motif symbolizes his ancestors who were masons, while the red memorializes the many Margots who have fought to defend France. The red chief, which resembles a curtain revealing a precious object, represents Mr. Margot's desire to protect his native town's heritage. The white disc represents a whole note, symbolizing Mr. Margots career in teaching musical theory, as well as a pearl, alluding to the origin of the surname Margot (from the name of the parish of Sainte-Marguerite in Cressat, France, Margaret ultimately meaning pearl in Latin and Greek). -Ae1
