The green field represents service in the U.S. Army and the green ponderosa pines of the Black Hills. The 3 chevronels in black and outlined in gold represent service as a non-commissioned officer and the peaks of the Black Hills of South Dakota The left griffin represents service as a law enforcement officer and counterintelligence special agent (military intelligence blue talons) and stands for vigilance, protection and bravery. The right griffin represents service as a firefighter and Red Cross volunteer (fire red talons) and stands for strength, courage and resourcefulness. The Jerusalem Cross in red represents the blood spilled by Christ for our sins, the dominion of Christ over the four quarters of the world and being a warrior ready to defend Christianity and Christians against persecution.
