The orange stripe on the Prinsenvlag was prone to discoloration, so this version came into common use as the flag of the Netherlands. For some time associated with the Statists (who opposed the monarchical leanings of the stadtholders) during the republican period, this version continued to be used by Napoleonic Holland and the modern Kingdom of the Netherlands.
