Étienne Jacques-Joseph-Alexandre Macdonald was a general in Napoleon's army, who awarded him the Légion d'Honneur and created him Duke of Taranto. He was later made a Peer of France and named Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honer by Louis XVIII.
