Notes

Though the Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism of this coat of arms, it is presumed that the anchor and wavy stripes represent the armiger's rank as a Commander in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve. The fasces and scales could represent his occupation as a lawyer, and the sunrise (or "break of day") is a pun on his surname. The caribou represents his home of Newfoundland, whereas the shamrock represents his Irish heritage. -Ae1
