Base. The bottom of the shield.
"When a charge is placed at the bottom ofthe field, it is termed In Base, and, if not occupying the middle of the base, it must be expressed as being in the dexter or sinister base point. See Canton in Dextee base. p. 19, f. 40. and Points of Escutcheon. P. 1.
