Palmer or Pilgrims ; were soldiers that had served in the Crusades or holy war,

They were so called because they generallybrought home a branch of palm of the growth of Palestine, and Avore it as a sacred badge and token that they had performed Iheir vows, either by fighting against the infidels, or visiting the Holy Sepulchre.
