Shield, Buckler, Target, or Escutcheon. A weapon of defence, borne on the arm to turn off the blows of an enemy's weapon. P. i ; P. 36, f. 27. As to the form or shape of shields there can be no rule ; any form may be taken. See Escutcheon.
