Colours

Colours in DrawShield are a bit complicated. There is no single, agreed mapping between heraldic colour names and RGB hex colour codes, however there are several suggested "mappings" (which DrawShield refers to as "palettes" and can be selected using the preferences pane on the create page.). The different palette shades can be seen under the "Heraldic Colours" below.

In addition, DrawShield supports several additional sets of colours for special purposes, the various names and shades can be shown in the remaining links below.

Resolving Colour Names

Unfortunately there are a few examples in which colours from different sets have the same name but different colour values. The way that these clashes are handled differs somewhat depending on the situation. (Fortunately there are no name clashes with the warhammmer colours so you can enable those without problems!)

azure, orange
these are the most complicated as the heraldic, named web colours and tartan sets all define these colours and do so with very different shades. How this is handled depends on what sets are enabled
Azure and orange (with Tartan enabled)
The program assumes that if you enabled tartan then you are usually drawing a tartan pattern rather than doing something heraldic so if the tartan set is enabled then the tartan azure and tartan orange will be used. If you really wanted one of the other versions then use heraldic azure / web azure or heraldic orange / web orange instead.
azure, orange (with web colours enabled)
The program assumes that if you have enabled the named colours then you are doing something heraldic and hence usually want heraldic colours. With web colours enabled azure and orange always give the heraldic version (from whatever palette you have chosen). To use the named colour you must always use web azure or web orange.
azure, orange (with all sets enabled)
You are just going to confuse yourself silly if you don't make it explicit what you want so always make sure that you use the prefixed versions of the names.
bisque, crimson (with named colours enabled)
The situation is similar to the above but there are no tartan colours of these names, it is assumed that you usually want the heraldic version so to get the actual named colours use web bisque, web crimson instead.
